The Interreg Romania-Hungary 2014-2020 Programme approved by the Joint Working Group
23 April 2015

During its meeting held on 21-22 April 2015, the Joint Working Group responsible for the strategic planning of the Interreg V-A Romania-Hungary 2014-2020 Programme adopted the cooperation document to be submitted to the European Commission for approval.

The new programme, as its predecessor, the Hungary-Romania Cross-border Co-operation Programme 2007-2013, aims to further boost the social and economic development of the Romanian-Hungarian border region through strengthening cooperation for the identification of common solutions. The overall financial allocation within the programme for the 2014-2020 period amounts to 189 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund. Following its adoption by the two Member States’ governments, which is expected to take place in the following weeks, the document will be submitted to the European Commission for approval.

The European Commission representative present at the meeting, Mr. Kypros Kyprianou congratulated the Romanian-Hungarian team, emphasizing the extraordinary effort put into the finalisation of the cooperation document. Kypros Kyprianou added that the programme document stands out through the maturity of its content.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration from Romania (MDRAP), acting as Managing Authority (MA), the Prime Minister's Office from Hungary (PMO), acting as National Authority (NA), and the Joint Technical Secretariat (JTS) of the Hungary-Romania Cross-border Co-operation Programme 2007-2013. The two delegations were led by Mrs. Doina Surcel, Deputy Director General in MDRAP (Romania), and Mr. Zsigmond Perényi, Deputy State Secretary within the Prime Minister's Office (Hungary).

The Joint Working Group (JWG) was established to ensure the efficiency and quality of the planning process related to the Interreg V-A Romania-Hungary 2014-2020 Programme. The group consisted of national, regional and local level representatives from both participating countries.
